About Me

Hello! I am Richard Chen from Taiwan, and I am a professional Chinese teacher. I have been teaching Chinese for over three years in different parts of the world, including the US, the UK, and India. I am not only a certified teacher, but I also hold a Master’s degree in Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language.

With academic training in linguistics and language education, I am especially good at explaining language nuances between Chinese and English and helping learners get through the language barrier much more easily. For instance, 和 is a character meaning “and” in English. However, unlike English, it can never be used to connect two sentences. I have also learned French, Spanish and other languages, so I would also use the languages you know or have learned to bridge the gap between your language and Chinese.

As a well-trained teacher, I adapt different teaching methods according to individuals’ learning styles, and I teach efficiently to guide learners to achieve their learning goals, such as conversation skills, pronunciation, and test preparation. In my class, I know how to talk at your Chinese level and go hand-in-hand with you as you progress. By conversing with the Chinese you can understand, you are constantly reviewing the content you’ve acquired before and you will never feel lost. I also like talking about linguistics concepts to help learners acquire Chinese more efficiently.

Having lived in many parts of the world, I enjoy exchanging cultural ideas with learners from all over the world. I incorporate Chinese culture in my language lessons with discussions on cultural differences and similarities. I also like to point out the different language variations among Taiwan, China, Hong Kong and other Chinese communities in the world.

Let's start with a trial lesson to get to know each other! I'll use this session to learn about your current level, your needs or goals, and most importantly, how to efficiently help you move forward in your Chinese learning. You can also send me an email with any questions before the session. I look forward to seeing you soon!
